US PRESS LISTS AZERBAIJAN AS ONE OF THE SAFEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD

The news website of the Foreign Policy Association, headquartered in New York, USA, has published an article titled “Which countries are the safest in the world?” in which Azerbaijan was regarded as one of the world’s safest countries.

In the article authored by Rachel Avraham, a well-known political scientist and journalist, CEO of the Dona Gracia Center for Diplomacy and the editor of the Economic Peace Center, Azerbaijan ranked 18th among 141 countries as being among the safest countries in the world in accordance with the Global Terrorism Index (GTI).

The Global Terrorism Index is a comprehensive study analyzing the impact of terrorism covering 99.7 per cent of the world’s population. It takes into account the number of terrorist incidents, deaths from terrorism, counter-terrorism, the effectiveness of terrorism investigations and many other indicators. Azerbaijan is also included in the list of 20 most secure countries in the world for crime rates. The ranking is by the Numbea resource, which has the world’s largest statistical database of countries and cities. During the survey, the residents were asked if they could walk alone in the city at night, were satisfied with the work of the police and whether they had been attacked or robbed over the past 12 months.

“Indeed, Oghuz, Azerbaijan may be one of the few places in the world where it is safe to leave synagogues unlocked at night, without fearing burglars and anti-Semitic vandals. There is also an Armenian church in the center of Baku. Despite Azerbaijan’s conflict with Armenia, it remains in good condition. As Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev proclaimed, “Today, Azerbaijan is an island of security,” the article reads.
