The media outlets of Iraq “Mustaqbil”, “Elamin news”, “Al Nahar news” have published the statement of the Iraq-Azerbaijan Friendship Society regarding the torture of the two Azerbaijani servicemen detained in Armenia.
The statement underlines that two soldiers of the Azerbaijani Army Huseyn Akhundov and Aghshin Babirov, who lost their direction due to limited visibility in adverse weather conditions in Shahbuz district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, were captured by Armenians.
The statement emphasizes that the pictures and videos circulated on social networks of Armenia clearly confirm the cases of physical torture and inhuman treatment against the captured Azerbaijani servicemen.
“As a result of Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan, some 3,890 Azerbaijanis went missing in the First Karabakh War. Of them 3,171 were military personnel and 719 civilians, 71 of the civilians were minors, 267 were women. Among the overall number of missing persons, 872 people, including 29 children, 98 women and 112 elderly people, have been taken hostage or remain in the occupied territories,” the article says.
As underlined in the statement, Armenia has breached its obligations under the Geneva Convention and obligations arising from other international agreements.
We, the friends and admirers of the Azerbaijani people in Iraq, condemn this crime and call on the international community to give a legal assessment of the actions of the Armenian government and ensure the immediate and unconditional release of the Azerbaijani soldiers.
