FOREIGN MINISTRY: PREJUDICES AGAINST AZERBAIJAN’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY AND SOVEREIGNTY MUST BE CEASED

“Our position on this matter is well known. The views of the ambassador of the European Union, an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan contrary to the norms and principles of international law, are unacceptable,” said spokesperson for Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aykhan Hajizada as he responded to the question of local media on the remarks made by Andrea Victorin, the Ambassador of the European Union to Armenia who on May 15, during a press conference, referring to the statement of the President of the European Council Charles Michel, said that “the rights and security of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh must be ensured” and for this purpose, an “international mechanism” must be created.

“The Karabakh region is the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, and like other ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, the rights and security of Armenian residents will be ensured within Azerbaijan’s internal legislation.

Azerbaijan’s efforts to establish a dialogue with the Armenian residents in the aforementioned direction must not be hindered, prejudices against our territorial integrity and sovereignty must be ceased,” Hajizada added.
