FINAL REPORT ON AZAL PLANE CRASH TO BE RELEASED BY DEC 2025

The final report on the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crash near Aktau will be released by December of this year, Kazinform News Agency quotes Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev as saying at the Government’s meeting today.

“According to the ICAO requirements, standards and recommended practices, one year is required to carry out an investigation. Correspondingly, the final report on the investigation must be released by December of this year,” said Lastayev.

In his words, Secretary General and President of ICAO highly appraised the quality of the preliminary report at a meeting in Abu-Dhabi during the 4th ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2025.

The Azerbaijan Airlines plane which was flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau, Mangistau region, on December 25. The plane was carrying 67 people including 5 crew members. 38 people died and 29 survived as a result of the tragedy. Among the victims were six nationals of Kazakhstan.

In early January, investigators in Brazil started extracting data from the black boxes of the crashed plane.

On December 30, IATA called for impartial and transparent investigation into Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash near Aktau.

On February 4, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan released a preliminary report on the accident.
