COP29 PRESIDENT MEETS WITH GUINEA-BISSAU’S ENVIRONMENT MINISTER

On the sidelines of Baku Energy Week, COP29 President and Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev, held a bilateral meeting with Viriato Luis Soares Cassama, Minister of Environment, Biodiversity, and Climate Action of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

The meeting focused on ensuring successful outcomes at COP29, particularly decisions related to climate finance, and discussed the presentation of the “Roadmap from Baku to Belém” aimed at maintaining continuity and ambition on the path to COP30.

Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among developing countries and increasing support for small island developing states and least developed countries that are most affected by climate change. They also exchanged views on promoting nature-based solutions, biodiversity conservation, and integrated approaches for sustainable development and climate resilience.

Minister Cassama praised Azerbaijan for hosting COP29 and reaffirmed Guinea-Bissau’s commitment to supporting the global climate agenda. He also welcomed Azerbaijan’s initiative to align climate priorities with energy transition and sustainable urbanization.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue mutual cooperation through COP30 and beyond.
