On 10–12 September, the 2nd Baku Water Week, combining the International Exhibition and Conference for Water Management will be held in Baku.
Baku Water Week, which serves as a platform of strategic importance for Azerbaijan and the region by fostering open dialogue and practical cooperation in the field of water management, is once again preparing this year to deliver tangible benefits and real opportunities for both local and international participants. The main purpose of the event is to further develop the country’s water management sector, attract new technologies, equipment and investments, discuss existing challenges and possible solutions, as well as to make new opportunities accessible for all stakeholders.
Baku Water Week is organised with the support of the State Water Resources Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The organiser of the event is Caspian Event Organisers. At the same time, Baku Water Week is actively supported by the Azerbaijan Exhibition Organisers Association (ASTA).
The relevance and importance of Baku Water Week for the sector is also highlighted by the fact that ACWA Power, one of Saudi Arabia’s leading companies specialising in energy and water, is serving as the general sponsor of the event.
As one of the global leaders in the fields of energy and water, ACWA Power supports the promotion of sustainable solutions focused on the water sector within this event. The company’s General Country Manager for Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Selim Güven, shared his views on the company’s activities in the water sector and its participation in Baku Water Week: “We are a developer, investor, and operator of power generation and desalinated water plants, with 109 assets in operation, construction, or advanced development across 15 countries. With an investment portfolio of USD 117 billion, we can generate 94 GW of power and produce 9.9 million cubic meters of desalinated water per day. We employ over 4,000 people, with nearly 59% local employment.
ACWA Power is the world’s largest private water desalination company and the only company to lead across three critical areas for the future – renewable energy, green hydrogen, and desalinated water. Our mission is to provide electricity and desalinated water reliably, sustainably, and at the lowest possible cost.
In Azerbaijan, we have already invested USD 340 million in the Khizi-Absheron 240 MW wind power plant. We are also proud to be the successful bidder for the Caspian Seawater Desalination Project, with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day – the first large-scale plant of its kind in the Caspian region – which will play a vital role in ensuring Azerbaijan’s long-term water security. For this project, we plan to invest USD 400 million.
In this regard, we are pleased to serve as the general sponsor of Baku Water Week, a platform that offers significant opportunities for cooperation in water resource management, the application of sustainable technologies, and the strengthening of water security in the region. We are committed to working closely with government institutions, industry partners, and innovation leaders to help build a more efficient and sustainable water future for Azerbaijan and the wider region.”
ACWA Power will also be represented at the 2nd International Conference Water Management, held within the framework of Baku Water Week. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Marco Arcelli, will deliver a speech at the plenary session entitled “Leadership in Water Governance: Regional and Global Perspectives”. Meanwhile, Selim Güven, the company’s General Country Manager for Azerbaijan and Türkiye, will participate in the panel discussion on “Innovative Approaches to Alternative Water Resources Management”.
Thus, at Baku Water Week, topics such as water resources management, efficient use of water, global climate change, water security, innovative approaches in the field of water management, water diplomacy, as well as new water technologies and practices will be in focus, with important initiatives related to the sector also taking place. At the same time, the event will host B2B and B2G meetings aimed at fostering cooperation between government institutions, the private sector, and innovative start-ups.
