The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Elkhan Polukhov, has presented the letter of appointment regarding his appointment as a Permanent Observer for the League of Arab States (LAS) to the LAS Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
Ambassador Polukhov stressed that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to development of relations with the Arab states, as well as cooperation with the LAS Secretariat General. Polukhov highlighted the importance of meetings held in various formats in development of relations.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit congratulated the ambassador on his appointment, and wished him success in his future endeavors. The LAS Secretary-General noted that this appointment would contribute to further cooperation between LAS and Azerbaijan.
Recalling his visit to Baku last June and the meetings he held with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Ahmed Aboul Gheit touched upon prospects of cooperation between LAS and Azerbaijan.
On the recent events in the region, ambassador Polukhov briefed the LAS Secretary-General about the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the border delimitation, developments around the Zangezur Corridor, the Lachin road, and the ongoing construction projects in the liberated lands of Azerbaijan.
