AZERBAIJANI FM INFORMS U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE ADVISOR ABOUT PROSPECTS OF AZERBAIJAN-ARMENIA NEGOTIATIONS

Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with visiting U.S. Department of State Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations Louis Bono.

The two discussed the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the prospects of negotiations and the current situation in the region.

FM Bayramov pointed out that contrary to its obligations Armenia does not fully withdraw its armed forces from Azerbaijani territory, continues its claims against Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, obstructs communication, and fails to maintain regional peace and stability in the region.

The Minister underscored that Armenia’s allegations that Azerbaijan keeps the Armenian residents in a blockade, and the Lachin state border checkpoint is “illegitimate” are groundless. According to Bayramov, given the provocations of Armenia on the Lachin road and at the checkpoint, Azerbaijan’s proposal to use the Aghdam-Khankendi road to help the Armenian residents of Karabakh remains in force. In addition, the minister stressed that Armenia’s meddling in Azerbaijan’s efforts to reintegrate the Armenian residents of Karabakh is unacceptable.

The parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
