AZERBAIJAN, SUDAN CELEBRATE 33RD ANNIVERSARY OF ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Baku has issued a statement marking the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Sudan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The statement reads: “Today, 25 July 2025, marks the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Sudan and the Republic of Azerbaijan. This day stands each year as a testament to the steadily growing ties between the two friendly countries across various fields, as well as their convergence of views on many regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Undoubtedly, the establishment of diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan in 1992 laid a solid foundation for bilateral dialogue between Khartoum and Baku, which has significantly contributed to shaping a distinguished partnership over the past three decades in both political and diplomatic spheres.

The two consecutive visits made by H.F. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of the Sudan, to the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, in 2019 and 2024 first to attend the Non-Aligned Movement Summit and later the World Leaders’ Summit on Climate Change (COP29) served as key milestones that injected significant momentum into bilateral relations. On the sidelines of these events, His Excellency held bilateral talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart, H.E. Ilham Aliyev, during which they reviewed the historic ties between the two nations and explored optimal ways to further develop and expand cooperation across all fields. The discussions also emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination in regional and international foras, building upon the existing bilateral agreements and the ongoing political dialogue between the leaderships of both countries, the latest of which was their meeting on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in April 2025. Preparations are currently underway to convene a new round of political consultations between the two sides at the earliest opportunity. The Government of the Sudan remains committed to fostering strong and enduring ties with Baku, establishing a solid platform for bilateral cooperation across various domains. This commitment is reflected in intensified political engagement aimed at forging a shared vision that enables the two countries to leverage their respective resources to promote joint cooperation in trade, investment, transportation, and capacity-building. Additionally, both sides are keen to initiate developmental cooperation between their regions, capitalizing on their rich experiences and mutual strengths.

In conclusion, the Embassy of the Republic of the Sudan in Baku takes this auspicious occasion to reaffirm the Sudanese government’s deep confidence in, and unwavering commitment to, the robust bilateral relationship. The Embassy looks forward to its further advancement in the near future, in a manner that fulfills the aspirations of both nations and reinforces the longstanding political and cultural bonds between the two brotherly peoples.

Long live Sudanese-Azerbaijani friendship!”
