
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Thomas Byrne, Ireland’s Minister of State for European Affairs and Defense, on the sidelines of the 32nd Ministerial Council meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) held in Vienna.
The ministers noted that Azerbaijan and Ireland will celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026. They positively assessed the progress achieved so far in bilateral and multilateral cooperation and emphasized the importance of further expanding these ties.
The meeting highlighted the potential for strengthening political dialogue, as well as cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, education, innovation, and high technologies. They also explored partnership opportunities in renewable energy and energy security.
Minister Bayramov emphasized Azerbaijan’s contribution to the European Union’s energy security, along with the international importance of major energy, transport, and communication projects initiated and actively supported by the country.
The sides underlined the importance of continuing mutually beneficial cooperation on multilateral platforms.
The ministers also reviewed regional and international developments and exchanged views on the situation in the South Caucasus.
The Irish Minister received information on the new realities in the region following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, the peace agenda pursued by Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period, the normalization process with Armenia, and the ongoing mine threat.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other matters of mutual interest.
