An event on the theme “The exceptional role of Heydar Aliyev in the construction of Baikal–Amur Mainline” was held in Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation on April 27 at the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, organized jointly by the Russian Railways JSC, the Russian University of Transport and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia.
The event, organized at the Transport University of Russia, first featured a documentary highlighting Heydar Aliyev’s contribution to the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM).
Then, Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev spoke at the event about the exceptional services rendered by the National Leader in the successful implementation of BAM, considered the largest infrastructure project of the Soviet Union.
The minister said that the Great Leader thanks to his perfect managerial skills, determination and self-confidence as the curator of transport sector managed to successfully complete the construction of BAM during his years in office as the First Deputy Chairman of USSR Council of Ministers: “Heydar Aliyev considered construction of the Baikal–Amur Mainline a great discovery of Siberia and Far East. Because during this construction a large area rich in mineral resources was put into exploitation in the territory of the railway. Heydar Aliyev managed to turn the geographical area of the Baikal–Amur Mainline into important industrial base, social-economic and cultural center in a short time.”
Speaking at the event, Aide to the Russian President Igor Levitin said the construction of the mainline and railways in the area with difficult geological structure and harsh climate was a real example of heroism: “Creation of BAM, which is the shortest way between the Pacific Ocean region and European countries, created favorable conditions for efficient use of natural resources of Siberia and the Far East. At the time when Heydar Aliyev was the curator of BAM, the construction work was considerably intensified and the set goals were fulfilled in full.”
The event was attended by the leadership of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and the leadership of the Russian Railways JSC, diplomats of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia, members of the Russian public association BAM and the Azerbaijani diaspora in Russia, as well as students.
