US ACTING ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE INFORMED ABOUT ONGOING MILITARY AND POLITICAL PROVOCATIONS OF ARMENIA

Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has had a telephone conversation with U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Dereck Hogan.
During the phone conversation the sides discussed the topical issues of cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the US, the current situation in the region, including the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted the existing bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the US in various fields, noting the importance of mutual contacts in terms of development of relations.
FM Bayramov provided insight into the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, noting that the ongoing military and political provocations committed by Armenia undermine the peace and reconstruction efforts of Azerbaijan. In this regard, the minister said that Armenia has not yet withdrawn its armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan. The FM also pointed out that Armenia continues to obstruct Azerbaijan’s efforts to reintegrate Armenian residents, adding that Armenia also opposing the proposal to establish a border checkpoint in order to prevent abuse of the Lachin road.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that despite Armenia’s non-constructive steps, Azerbaijan is determined to continue efforts aimed at advancing the peace agenda.
U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Dereck Hogan said that the successful outcome of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia as well as resolution of the existing issues through negotiations are essential for the establishment of lasting peace and security in the region. He pointed out that the US is ready to support the peace process.
During the telephone conversation, the parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
