According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, the volume of cashless transactions with payment cards increased 2.2 times to 9.9 billion AZN in the first half of 2022. Taking this into account, MTM (Media Analysis Center) studied people’s attitudes toward cash and non-cash payments.
Among the 1520 respondents, 61% were women and 39% were men.
According to the answers to the first question, 40% of respondents have less than 20 AZN, 33% have 20-50 AZN, 12% have 50-100 AZN and 8% have more than 100 AZN on their e-wallets. 7% don’t use cash at all.
35% of survey respondents said they record their monthly expenses, 37% did not record them, and 28% said they remembered them.
Respondents’ opinions on electronic wallets were determined by their answers to the next question. 36% of participants said that e-wallets speed up currency transactions, 16% believe that e-wallets are not reliable, and 49% do not know about them.
Although 4% of the survey participants use the services of local wallets such as “mpay”, 8% “Portmanat”, 5% “EPUL” and 8% “Kassam”, 66% said that they don’t use local wallets at all. 18% of respondents selected the “Other” option.
The question “On which international e-wallet platforms do you have an account?” was posed to respondents who could pick several options. The responses to this question were as follows:

9% of respondents who answered the last question said that they were able to perform all transactions when accessing foreign e-wallet platforms from Azerbaijan, and 7% said that they encountered problems with certain transactions on some platforms. 84% of respondents said they do not use foreign e-wallets.
