AZERBAIJAN, UGANDA EXPLORE POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, AND HUMANITARIAN RELATIONS

On August 27, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs of Uganda.

The meeting explored political, economic, trade, energy security, humanitarian aspects of the Azerbaijan-Uganda relations, as well as collaboration within regional and international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the African Union, and regional matters.

The officials exchanged congratulatory messages on the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, pointing out great prospects for boosting bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

They stressed the significance of implementation of the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan during its NAM Chairmanship, as well as joint collaboration demonstrated during the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAMYO), and maintaining active cooperation during Uganda’s Chairmanship of the movement.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed the Ugandan official about Azerbaijan’s efforts and plans to develop and increase the renewable energy sources, describing enhancing renewable energy cooperation as one of the top priorities of bilateral cooperation agenda.

They noted that the successful implementation of the “ASAN Khidmet” model in Uganda is an indicator of benefitting from bilateral exchange of expertise in public services.

The Azerbaijani top diplomat also informed the Ugandan minister about the key outcomes of the Washington meeting, noting that the historic meeting saw the initialing of the draft “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia” and signing of the Joint Appeal by the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia regarding the closure of the OSCE’s Minsk Process and related structures.

The Ugandan minister of state congratulated the Azerbaijani FM on the landmark breakthrough in the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process during the Washington meeting, expressing hope for the successful outcome of the process.

The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual interest.

On the same day, political consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Uganda. The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev, while the Ugandan delegation was headed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs John Mulimba.
