WESTERN AZERBAIJAN COMMUNITY THANKS OIC MEMBER STATES FOR UNAMBIGUOUS SUPPORT

Another significant achievement has been made in securing international support for the return to Western Azerbaijan. The final declaration of the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Istanbul, included a provision on the Western Azerbaijan issue, along with a separate resolution adopted at the session.

This was highlighted in a statement issued by the Western Azerbaijan Community.

The statement noted that the documents adopted during the session condemn the deportations carried out by Armenia against Western Azerbaijanis, the destruction of their cultural heritage, and Armenia’s continued denial of the community’s legitimate right of return.

OIC member states expressed their clear and unambiguous support for the safe and dignified return of Western Azerbaijanis to their homeland.

The adoption of the resolution titled “The Right to Return of Azerbaijanis Forcibly and Systematically Expelled from Present-Day Armenian Territory” marks the Western Azerbaijan issue as one of the key topics within the OIC agenda. The OIC executive bodies have been tasked with regularly addressing this matter.

“Following the decision on the Western Azerbaijan issue at the OIC Banjul Summit last year, and thanks to the initiative of the Azerbaijani leadership, the adoption of these new decisions by the OIC Council of Ministers demonstrates that the organization is pursuing a consistent and principled approach to this issue,” the statement said.

The Western Azerbaijan Community emphasized that these decisions will contribute to the supremacy of international law and human rights, and will promote peace, reconciliation, and justice in the region. The Community wholeheartedly welcomes the decisions adopted by the OIC Council of Ministers and extends its gratitude to the OIC member states for their support.
