Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE), on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Friday.
Discussions focused on key items on the agenda between Azerbaijan and the CoE.
Minister Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan’s longstanding cooperation with the CoE in the areas of rule of law, human rights, and democracy since the country’s accession to the organization. However, he noted that recent prejudice displayed by various CoE institutions towards Azerbaijan has hindered this cooperation.
He expressed disappointment over the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s failure to ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation last year, describing it as an example of discriminatory treatment toward Azerbaijan.
He stressed that such actions have led to the closure of dialogue channels, negatively impacting mutual contacts and relations.
The meeting also covered other issues of mutual interest.
