AZERBAIJAN’S OMBUDSMAN HOLDS MEETING WITH CHINESE DELEGATION

Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with a Chinese delegation led by Liu Xuexin, Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China and Deputy Chairman of the National Commission of Supervision.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman highlighted that Azerbaijan-China relations have reached an advanced level in various sectors, with several major joint projects currently in progress. She provided the delegation with an overview of her mandate, human rights protection activities, and best practices, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in enhancing these efforts. She noted that her office cooperates effectively with numerous international organizations, including the Asian Ombudsman Association, where she serves as vice president.

Aliyeva also mentioned that her institution has signed memorandums of understanding with ombudsmen institutions and national human rights institutions (NHRIs) in several countries and implemented key projects. She expressed interest in expanding cooperation with China’s CCDI.

She added that Azerbaijan will soon host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP29), and the Ombudsman’s Office plans to hold panel discussions during the event.

Liu Xuexin thanked Aliyeva for the warm reception and fondly recalled the recent meeting of the countries’ leaders, where a Joint Declaration on establishing a strategic partnership was signed. He expressed interest in strengthening cooperation between the NHRIs of Azerbaijan and China.

The meeting concluded with discussions on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
