HEYDAR ALIYEV CENTER HOSTS PREMIERE OF “TAGHIYEV: OIL” FILM

On October 4, the Heydar Aliyev Center hosted the premiere of the feature film “Taghiyev: Oil,” which chronicles the life and philanthropic efforts of the notable Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev.

The presentation ceremony was attended by Arzu Aliyeva, the project’s director and producer and President of the Baku Media Center, Heydar Aliyev, as well as MPs and prominent figures from the fields of science and culture.

The film was produced by the Baku Media Center with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the Cinema Agency.

Attendees first viewed an exhibition showcasing costumes and historical items used during the filming in the foyer.

Before the premiere, it was noted that “Taghiyev: Oil” is the first installment of a multi-part series titled “Taghiyev,” dedicated to the life of the millionaire and philanthropist.

The film also highlights significant historical events in Baku and other regions of Azerbaijan during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This four-part film aims to enhance understanding of this pivotal period in Azerbaijani history and promote national values, making its presentation particularly significant in 2024, which marks the 100th anniversary of Taghiyev’s passing.

The film’s production has made a notable impact on Azerbaijani cinema due to its scale. Nearly 2,500 creative individuals participated in the mass scenes filmed across 76 different locations. More than 300 sets were constructed for historical scenes, and a special costume workshop was established to authentically represent the era in which Taghiyev lived, producing numerous costumes, accessories, and jewelry samples.

The film’s main producer is Arzu Aliyeva, with Orman Aliyev as the producer. Zaur Gasimli directed the film, while the screenwriters include Ismayil Iman, Asif Isgandarli, and Zaur Gasimli. Vladimir Artemyev served as the cinematographer, Sabuhi Atababayev as the production designer, Vusal Rahim as the costume designer, and Etibar Asadli as the composer.

A talented cast featured People’s Artists Parviz Mammadrzayev (as Taghiyev), Gurban Ismayilov, and Honored Artists Rasim Jafar, Elshan Rustamov, and Natavan Hajiyeva portraying historical figures.

Director Zaur Gasimli expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported the film’s production. He thanked Arzu Aliyeva for her extensive support in bringing the project to fruition and presented her with a keepsake on behalf of the creative team.
