AZERBAIJAN, GREECE DISCUSS RELATIONS ON BILATERAL AND MULTILATERAL PLATFORMS

Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with visiting Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Papadopoulou.

The parties explored various facets of Azerbaijan-Greece relations on bilateral and multilateral platforms, as well as Azerbaijan-Armenia reconciliation process and the regional issues.

The two said the connections between the leaders of the two countries and the political consultations held between the foreign ministers are significant in charting the course for the development of bilateral relations. They emphasized the importance of cultivating relations in political, economic, trade, energy, agriculture, tourism, humanitarian and other domains, and found the need for expanding cooperation in line with interests of the two nations.

Recalling the meeting held with his Greek counterpart last December, Jeyhun Bayramov underlined the imperative of intensifying the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Greece in the economic, industrial and technological realms, along with political contacts.

The sides also underlined the importance of energy cooperation between the two countries and touched upon the exceptional significance of the Southern Gas Corridor, the Trans-Adriatic pipeline, as well as the Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB). They expressed optimism that in this regard the successful cooperation between the two countries in the energy area would contribute to the development and stability of the region.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided an insight into the realities in the region during the post-conflict period, the anti-terrorist measures, the reconciliation process and prospects for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the ongoing restoration and reconstruction works in the liberated areas.

During Alexandra Papadopoulou’s visit, political consultations were conducted between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, with participation of delegations led by her and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Fariz Rzayev. The consultations saw discussions on cooperation between the two countries in a bilateral format, as well as within regional and international organizations.
