WESTERN AZERBAIJAN COMMUNITY: PASHINYAN’S REMARKS INDICATE ARMENIA`S DISINTEREST IN PEACE

“The remarks made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during his speech on the occasion of the “army” day once again indicate that Armenia is not interested in signing a peace agreement with Azerbaijan. How can a country that desires peace boast about signing arms deals worth billions of dollars?” the Western Azerbaijan Community said in a statement regarding Armenian PM’s remarks.

Nikol Pashinyan’s reiteration of the idea of “a mirror withdrawal of troops”, as well as his making outdated and utopian proposals such as “non-aggression pact” and “joint arms control mechanism” prove that Armenia is trying to avoid the peace agreement under baseless pretexts. The Armenian prime minister should take real steps towards ensuring peace and engage in dialogue with the Western Azerbaijan Community, instead of putting forward a strange initiative such as “non-aggression pact” reminiscent of the period between the World War I and II.

The statements of the Armenian President and Parliament Speaker on the occasion of the “army” day contain elements of an attempt to justify the First Karabakh War and the regret over the results of the Second Karabakh War. Such contradictory statements are utterly incompatible with the peace policy claimed by Armenia, and they must be abandoned.

Moreover, the statements made by a number of Western countries on the occasion of the “army” day serve to fuel revanchism in Armenia, that occupied the lands of the neighboring state for almost thirty years, and raise questions about the extent to which these countries are interested in the peace process,” the Western Azerbaijan Community emphasized.
