
Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Sahiba Gafarova has met with President of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco Rachid Talbi El Alami.
Describing Azerbaijan and Morocco as two brotherly countries, Rachid Talbi El Alami emphasized the importance of expanding relations between the two countries. He stressed the significance of fostering economic cooperation and strengthening ties between the business communities of both countries.
The pair reaffirmed their mutual support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Morocco. The sides highlighted the collaborative efforts and solidarity demonstrated within international organizations.
Rachid Talbi El Alami congratulated Azerbaijan on the restoration of its sovereignty and on the hosting of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in 2024.
Highlighting the important role of interparliamentary cooperation, they commended the successful operation of friendship groups in the parliaments of both countries, expressing support for each other within international parliamentary organizations.
They also discussed cooperation between the committees of the higher legislative bodies and the parliamentary apparatuses, exploring possibilities for cooperation on legal, economic and humanitarian issues, family values and women’s affairs.
Touching upon the importance of interaction within the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network initiated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Speaker hailed Morocco`s active participation in all NAM conferences.
Sahiba Gafarova shed light on the upcoming snap presidential election to be held in Azerbaijan on February 7, 2024, as well as the Victory in the Patriotic War, the local anti-terrorist measures, and the ongoing restoration and reconstruction works in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.
She expressed gratitude for the Moroccan government`s fair stance regarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
Speaker Gafarova also provided insight into the confidence-building measures between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
