
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with UN Resident Coordinator in the country Vladanka Andreeva.
The meeting saw discussions on current issues of cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the UN, including the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) implementation.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov underscored the importance of the SDG Summit, which will be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on September 18-19 this year in terms of analyzing the status of implementation of the sustainable development agenda. The minister informed Vladanka Andreeva about the work done aimed at ensuring SDGs at the national level as well as the activity of the Azerbaijan’s National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development established to ensure achievement of goals, which are of great importance to the country.
FM Bayramov also briefed the UN Coordinator about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period as well as reconstructions works carried out in the liberated Azerbaijani territories based on “smart city” and “smart village” concepts, and steps undertaken towards creating green energy zone. The FM said that Armenia’s military-political provocations and ongoing land mine threat undermine the peace efforts. He emphasized the significance of demining process in terms of the reconstruction process as well as the return of the internally displaced persons (IDPs), who were forced to flee as a result of Armenian occupation.
UN Resident Coordinator Vladanka Andreeva stressed the importance of Azerbaijan’s activity towards promoting SDGs. She also hailed cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN as well as its specialized agencies.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
